Can you help tell the Sandy the Seal story for our Glengarriff village mascot?

Glengarriff has plans for a new village mascot – one of our very own seals.

Sandy Seal lives on our shores and now wants to share her adventures and bring her story to life! But she needs our help.

She is a brave, fearless soul, full of courage and kindness, and quite a personality. She has many adventures to share which have unfolded on the waves and walkways and have been whispered by the wind.

If you feel excited and intrigued about Sandy’s adventures, we are inviting all storytellers to share 500 – 1000 words (1000 words maximum) about the adventures of Sandy.

One of these stories will then be selected to be developed with the Glengarriff mascot project writer with the intention of creating an illustrated storybook.

This narrative will form the beginning of a journey to introduce Sandy through various mediums in what will  become part of the story of Glengarriff.

How to submit your Sandy the Seal story

All interested storytellers should submit their ideas with a small summary about themselves to glengtda@gmail.com by March 10th 2023.

The storyteller selected will then be invited by the Glengarriff Community Development Group to develop their ideas further and, at that stage, a fee will be agreed.

The project, very much in its infancy, presents an exciting opportunity which will be developed collaboratively. While ideas may overlap, only one story can be selected based on imaginative content and style and quality of writing.

The selection will be by a judging panel from the Glengarriff Community Development Group whose members reserve the right to confer with others in the selection of the piece and they will only select a submission if the judges agree there is a suitable submission to introduce Sandy to the world!

Best of luck everyone! We will make every effort to notify storytellers by March 31st 2023.
